Introduction

Your child has ADHD.  What medication is best for your child?  You may be wondering this question.  This article will explore this topic.

Methylphenidate

According to www.azcourts.gov, Methylphenidate is one type of medication used for the treatment of ADHD.  In fact, it is the most widely used medication for ADHD, consisting of ritalin and metadate.  Ritalin is administered several times a day, while metadate, an extended release pill is also used.  This medication is usually taken in the morning.  According to www.azcourts.gov, some doctors recommend a “homework” dosage in the afternoon after school because the medication can wear off and prevent rebound.

Adderall

According to www.azcourts.gov, Adderall is the second type of medication used for the treatment of ADHD.  Adderall is not expensive and only needs to be taken once a day.  According towww.azcourts.gov, “In two studies comparing Adderall given once daily with two daily doses of Ritalin, both drugs were beneficial and the effect on behavior was similar. In one of these studies, Adderall was superior to low-dose Ritalin in preventing evening wearing-off effects and the staff involved in monitoring the children recommended Adderall over Ritalin by three to one.”  On an even further note, according to this study, it may be concluded that Adderall may be a good alternative to Ritalin.  Adderall is not necessary at school.

Pemoline

On a third note, according to www.azcourts.gov, Pemoline is a stimulant used for the treatment of ADHD in children and may also be used for the treatment of ADHD in adults.  Pemoline may take longer to work than other stimulants.  However, unlike other stimulants it is a once-daily pill.

Dextroamphetamine

According towww.azcourts.gov, a final stimulant used for the treatment of ADHD is Dextroamphetamine.  It can be argued that Dextroamphetamine is similar to Ritalin.  However, it has been argued that Dextroamphetamine has better results than Ritalin.

Conclusion

To end this article, four types of stimulants have been mentioned as treatment for ADHD.  They include but are not limited to: Methylphenidate, Adderall, Pemoline, and also Dextroamphetamine.  According to www.azcourts.gov, Methylphenidate consists of ritalin and metadate.  According to www.azcourts.gov, Adderal is not very expensive and only needs to be taken once a day.  According to www.azcourts.gov, Pemoline is used for children.  However, on an even further note, Pemoline can also be used for adults.  In addition to the use of Methylphenidate, Adderall, and Pemoline, Dextroamphetamine is another stimulant used for the treatment of ADHD.  Some studies have even reported a better response with this stimulant.
