Of these adults with ADHD, 38% are women and 62% are men.”  Since it is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Awareness Month, this article will provide readers with information about a webinar specifically geared toward ADHD awareness month.

ADHD Myth And The Stigma They Perpetuate

On Thursday, October 6th at 1:00 PM, additudemag.com, will be providing viewers with a webinar specifically geared toward Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Awareness Month.  It is entitled, “ADHD Myth and the Stigmas They Perpetuate: A Guide to Overcoming Shame.”  According to additudemag.com, the following information has been stated about this webinar:

If you live with attention deficit, chances are good you’ve heard more than one of these insidious comments: “ADHD is a made-up disorder.” “ADHD is just an excuse for laziness.” “ADHD medications give students an unfair advantage.” “You’ll grow out of it.” “But you’re not hyperactive; you can’t have ADHD.” And, of course, “Isn’t ADHD for little boys?”

If you hear these erroneous opinions often enough, you might mistake them for truth. And that can lead to a lifetime of shame so extreme that it prevents you from pursuing the evaluation and treatment of your symptoms. This is a serious problem that we will address in this webinar with the following:

An understanding of how stigma takes root and grows

> An analysis of stigma’s long-term impact on individuals with ADHD

> A three-step plan for fighting ADHD stigma

> Strategies for overcoming shame, embarrassment, and feelings of inadequacy

> Ways to change others’ understanding of ADHD

> Reasons to share your ADHD story with others
